“I find the word ‘yuvraj’ insulting because India is a democracy. The word (yuvaraj) has no meaning here,” said Gandhi at a press conference here.

“(Prime Minister) Manmohan Singh is a very capable leader. And I support my leader,” he added.

Congress spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi, at a press conference, earlier had described Gandhi as a yuvraj of the people, leading to criticism from the main opposition Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) MPs in Rajya Sabha Tuesday.

Gandhi is on a four-day tour of Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh as part of a series of visits to some poor and tribal areas of the country.
