Tehran : The 8th Majlis run-off elections started here at 54 constituencies at 08:00 am Tehran times on Friday.
Some 164 candidates run the race in 100 cities in 21 provinces to win 82 parliamentary seats.
The run-off elections will be held for 10 hours based on the law and the time would be extended if necessary.
The 8th Majlis election and the by-election for the Experts Assembly were concurrently held nationwide on Friday March 14 but in number of constituencies, including Tehran, Rey, Shemiranat and Islam Shahr, the candidates failed to obtain the quorum, so run-off elections are held there this Friday.
In Tehran, Rey, Shemiranat and Islam Shahr constituencies, 19 hopefuls won the majority of votes on March 14 and the 11 remaining should run for the by-election this Friday.
Iran’s outgoing Interior Minister, Hojjatoleslam Mostafa Pur-Mohammadi, said that Interior Ministry officials would spend their entire efforts to announce election results within 48 hours.
He added, “All the same, announcing the election results in Tehran Constituency might take longer.”
