The PFLP said in a statement sent to reporters that it has received an invitation from Egypt to hold talks with senior Egyptian officials on a possible truce between Israel and the Palestinians.

“The most important priority in the talks should not only focus on the truce (with Israel), it should also tackle the general Palestinian situation, including ending the status of division and lifting the blockade,” said the PFLP statement.

In Gaza, the PFLP held talks on Saturday with the Islamic Jihad(Holy War) movement on a possible ceasefire agreement with Israel.

On Friday, two senior Hamas leaders returned to Gaza after hammering out in the past few days in coordination with Egypt a ceasefire agreement with Israel.

The Islamic Resistance Movement, or Hamas, said the ceasefire will only include the Gaza Strip for six months, during which Palestinian militants refrain from attacking Israel, while Israel will stop ground operations, lift the blockade and open crossings.

Meanwhile, Hamas spokesman in Gaza, Sami Abu Zuhri, warned in a statement that if the Jewish state rejects Hamas’ ceasefire proposal and efforts to render it successful, “the whole region would go into an unprecedented escalation.”

“The current Israeli position shows that Israel is not serious to reach a ceasefire with Hamas,” Abu Zuhri said, adding “In case reaching a ceasefire deal fails, all options for Hamas movement will be possible.”
