New Delhi : Thousands of former servicemen Sunday gathered simultaneously in different cities across the country to voice their dissent against the sixth Pay Commission’s recommendations.
“We organized the rally at two places – Noida and Gurgaon. Earlier, the plans were to hold a rally at the India Gate in New Delhi, but the venue had to be changed as the home ministry denied us the permission,” senior vice-president of Ex-Servicemen Organisation (ESMO) Maj. Gen. (retd) Satbir Singh said.
“The rally was organized at 60 cities across the country and thousands of people participated to attract the attention of the government towards the plight of the retired armed forces personnel,” Singh added.
The main demand is that either a fresh pay commission should be constituted for the defence forces or a review board comprising serving and retired defence personnel should review the recommendations of the sixth Pay Commission.
“Besides the pay panel recommendation’s review, we want the policy of ‘one rank one pension’ to be implemented as well as resettlement of veteran soldiers,” president of Navy Foundation, Delhi Chapter, Admiral (retd) Harinder Singh said.
