Gaza : Israel announced Sunday its willingness to agree on an undeclared truce in Gaza Strip, if Hamas stopped missile attacks and weapon smugglings into the strip, Israeli radio reported.
The radio also reported an Israeli government source saying that if Hamas agreed to this deal, there would be no need for Israel to execute military operations in Gaza Strip.
Meanwhile, Israel said it is not negotiating with Hamas, claiming nobody presented any suggested solutions to calm the situation in the first place.
On their part, Hamas said Israeli rejection of a mutual ease of tensions in Gaza Strip is in fact a declaration of war, adding that the Islamic movement is ready for this option.
This came in a statement by Hamas leader Dr.Mahmoud Al-Zahhar who asserted that such agreement would be in everyone’s interest including Israel.
Al-Zahhar told Al-Aqsa radio in Gaza that “Israeli is seeking to clam the volatile situation in Gaza Strip, as it suffers the scourge of missile attacks launched by the Palestinians, and can not afford confrontation with Hamas.” Al-Zahhar also said Hamas is still to receive a response on its proposal of a six-month truce, noting that the head of Egyptian intelligence, Omar Suleiman, is expected to arrive soon to the Israeli capital, Tel Aviv, where Israel is likely to reach its decision on this matter, which he expected would be consent.
