Ranchi : Perturbed by the low recovery of payment against bills, the Jharkhand State Electricity Board (JSEB) has decided to employ women to solve its problem.

“We will induct more women for billing, collection and checking pilferage of electricity. Women of the state should not be restricted to doing mundane work. We are hoping that the involvement of women will boost revenue collection,” Brij Mohan Verma, JSEB chairman, said Monday.

“We are able to collect 40 to 45 percent of the total billing. Correct billing is also a major problem for the board,” said a JSEB official.

JSEB had put out advertisements in local newspapers seeking applications from women for distributing bills, collecting money against bills and carrying out minor repair work. The board says it has received a good response.

“We have received more than 120 applications. These women will be inducted on a permanent basis,” an official said.
