Spokeswoman of the French Foreign Ministry Pascale Andreani said in a statement that Kouchner will be participating in the AHLC meeting, in response to an invitation from his Norwegian counterpart, which is “for the coordination of international aid for the development of the Palestinian territories.” The statement indicated that this meeting comes following a similar meeting that was held last September in New York and also a follow-up to the Palestinian international donors conference held in Paris in December 2007.

It indicated that the meeting will be an “occasion to recall the importance for the whole of the international community to build strong and independent Palestinian institutions.” “In this situation, where the priority is to facilitate the conditions of movement of people and goods and to support the reforms undertaken by international aid, this meeting will also address the ways to encourage parties to ensure the effective implementation of projects on the ground in the West Bank and Gaza.” Furthermore, the Spokeswoman affirmed that Kouchner will also be attending in London a meeting for the foreign ministers of the “Six” major nations ( Germany, China, the US, Britain, Russia and France), which will focus on the latest developments on the Iranian nuclear file. Within the framework of the existing policy based on a call for negotiations or recourse sanctions if Iran refuses to comply, “the Six have decided to prove once again their willingness to negotiate by proposing a new offer of cooperation to Iran based on the one presented in 2006,” the statement stressed.
