Shoaib’s five-year ban upheld by appellate tribunal

Karachi : Fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar’s five-year ban was Wednesday upheld by a three-man appellate tribunal here.

Early April, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) banned the 32-year-old pacer for five years for repeatedly violating the players’ code of conduct.

But the three-man appellate tribunal headed by retired judge Aftab Farrukh, former Test cricketer Haseeb Ahsan and former minister Salman Taseer upheld the ban.

But the tribunal said the board could not stop Shoaib from playing outside Pakistan.

The decision of the tribunal came a day after the fast bowler apologised to PCB chairman Naseem Ashraf, fellow cricketers and the people of Pakistan.
