Kolkata : A team of forensic experts Monday examined the site of gunshell explosion that occurred near the Sarbamangala Ghat here Sunday evening and collected samples from the spot for further examination.
“An expert team of the Central Forensic Science Library (CFSL), Kolkata, visited the area and collected a number of samples from the blast site. They’ll carry out forensic examination and submit a report to the Kolkata Police,” Kolkata Police deputy commissioner (detective department) Jawed Shamim told IANS.
Brushing aside the possibilities of terrorist connection, he said, “The police are looking into the case and also trying to find out from where the gunshell was brought to that area. But it’s clear the incident has nothing to do with any subversive activity.”
Four people, including a three-year-old child, were killed and six other people were injured in the explosion at a ragpickers’ colony in northern part of Kolkata.
The incident took place as some people tried to open a shell, which a boy had brought while collecting scraps.
CFSL officials said the forensic report would likely be submitted within one month.
