Ramallah : The Israeli army nabbed 11 Palestinians from their homes in the northern West Bank city of Nablus early on Monday morning, Palestinian security sources said.
The sources and residents in the city said around 20 Israeli army jeeps full of soldiers raided the city from different directions amid intensive gunfire. No injuries were reported.
They said the Israeli forces redeployed in several parts of the city before storming residential houses and detained the 11 people, who Israel said are wanted by Israeli security forces.
Hamas movement in the West Bank said in a statement that the Israeli army released Omer Abdul Razeq, former minister of finance in the Hamas unity government formed after it won the January 2006legislative elections.
Meanwhile, Israeli naval gunships opened intensive gunfire at the boats of Palestinian fishermen in the sea off the southern Gaza Strip town of Khan Younis, inflicting no injuries so far.
Residents of Khan Younis said the gunfire lasted for more than an hour causing fear among the population living in the western part of the city.
Egypt has brokered a truce between Israel and Gaza militants, under which Israel eases restrictions imposed on Gaza crossings for stopping rockets attacks on Israel.
