Palwal to be Haryana’s 21st district

Chandigarh : Palwal will be the 21st district of Haryana, the state government announced Tuesday.

The decision to create the new district was taken by the Haryana cabinet, which met under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Bhupinder Singh Hooda here Tuesday.

The new district would be carved out of the Gurgaon division. Most of the areas would be from the Faridabad and Mewat districts.

Palwal town, which lies 30 km beyond Faridabad on the Faridabad-Agra national highway, would be the headquarters of the new district. It will have three sub-divisions of Palwal, Hodal and Hathin.

The new district will have 282 villages, a total area of 135,933 hectares and a population of over 829,000 people, a state government spokesman said.

Last year, the Haryana government declared Mewat as the 20th district of the state with its headquarters at Nuh.
