Kozhikode : Custom officials seized 14 kg of saffron worth Rs.1.4 million from a passenger Tuesday at the Kozhikode International Airport in Kerala.
“We found the saffron in the baggage of Muhammed Tajuddin in 28 packets weighing 500 gram each. He is a native of Kasargod district (in Kerala),” Robbin Baby, a customs intelligence official told IANS.
The officials said that Tajuddin had procured the saffron from Iran. He was returning from Sharjah. He has been charged with smuggling in saffron and trying to evade duty on it.
