Chinese President seeks deeper ties with Russia

Beijing : Chinese President Hu Jintao Saturday met Russian Prime Minister Vladimir Putin and discussed ways to widen bilateral and multilateral cooperation for peace and development.

Hu said one of the aspects of the China-Russia strategic partnership is promotion of multipolarization and democracy and a fair and reasonable global political and economic order.

The two countries should deepen bilateral and multilateral cooperation, he said, adding that they should seek mutual benefits, maintain a win-win situation and achieve common development.

Putin reaffirmed Russia’s friendly policy toward China and said Moscow is keen to elevate the practical cooperation in various fields with Beijing to a new height.

Hu repeated his sincere thanks for Russia’s valuable support and assistance to the Chinese people in their fight against the devastating earthquake that jolted Sichuan province in May.
