Cuba, Argentina win medals in Olympics judo

Beijing : Athletes from Cuba and Argentina won their first medals at the 2008 Beijing Olympics Saturday after bagging the silver and bronze in women’s 48-kg category judo competition, Spain’s EFE news agency reported.

Janet Bermoy of Cuba won the silver medal after losing the final to Romania’s Alina Alexandra Dumitru, while Paula Belen Pareto of Argentina won a bronze medal after defeating North Korea’s Ok Song Pak.

Pareto became the first person to win an Olympic medal for Argentina in judo sport.
