Flash floods have wreaked havoc in Sambalpur, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Kalahandi and Bolangir districts of the state.

Five people, including two children, have been missing since Sunday evening, when the jeep they were travelling in was swept away by a swollen river near Jamaipali in Bolangir district. Sixteen of the 21 people in the jeep were rescued, said Padmanav Behera, an officer at the state emergency control room.

While three people drowned in Sambalpur Friday, a woman drowned Thursday and one man was reported missing since Friday in Rayagada district.

Despite the incessant rain, most rivers in the state were flowing below the danger level. Only the Bansadhara river at Kashinagar in Ganjam district was flowing above the danger mark but the level was fast receding, he added.
