Kabul : Roadside bombing and conflicts in the war-torn Afghanistan has left two soldiers with the NATO-led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) dead and 16 people including three ISAF soldiers injured, said an ISAF statement released here on Tuesday.
ISAF convoy on Monday hit a roadside bomb in northern Afghan province of Faryab leaving one soldier dead and three Latvian soldiers injured, the statement said.
“Explosion also wounded 13 civilians nearby,” it said.
“This continues to show the insurgents are desperate to destabilize Afghanistan, with no regard for the lives of innocent Afghans,” said Brigadier-General Richard Blanchette, an ISAF spokesperson.
Meanwhile, one ISAF soldier, according to the statement, was killed in southern Afghanistan when insurgents attacked a patrol on Monday.
Afghanistan experienced several bloodshed in a single day Monday when its capital Kabul was struck by two straight suicide and roadside bombings.
A suicide car bombing targeting ISAF convoy in Afghan capital Kabul Monday afternoon killed at least three people and injured 12others, all civilians, a police official said.
ISAF press office confirmed that the suicide attack inflicted “small number of ISAF casualties.”
Moreover, Zabihullah Mujahed, the purported Taliban spokesman claimed responsibility for the attack saying one Taliban fighter form eastern Afghan province of Khost carried out the explosion leading great casualties on international troops.
One Afghan police was killed and two others sustained injures as a roadside bomb struck their van in the outskirts of Kabul on Monday, police said.
Taliban insurgents who staged a violent comeback three years ago have intensified their activities in the provinces bordering Kabul over the past several months to mount pressure on the government.
A total of 70,000 multi-national troops are deployed across Afghanistan under the flags of the NATO-led ISAF and the U.S.-led Coalition forces respectively for maintaining stability and helping in reconstruction.
Conflicts and spiraling insurgency have claimed the lives of more than 2,500 people including militants, troops and civilians so far this year in Afghanistan.
