Tehran : Visiting Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika has lauded Iran’s significant progress particularly in the past few years and called for further expansion of bilateral ties.
In a meeting with Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki Tuesday, he underlined the need for unity and solidarity of all Muslim nations throughout the globe.
He criticized the arrest warrant issued against Sudanese President Omar Hassan Ahmad al-Bashir by the International Criminal Court.
Mottaki said that the two countries’ leaders are determined to further boost ties within the framework of joint agreements and the approval of the two countries’ Joint Economic Commission.
Expressing his satisfaction over the current level of Tehran-Algiers cooperation, he underscored the need for further consultations between the two countries on regional and international issues.
Praising the great potentials of Muslim states, he called for further solidarity of Islamic nations.
Iran-Algeria bilateral cooperation in the areas of industry and oil and gas as well as the latest regional and international developments were also discussed in the meeting.
Bouteflika, heading a high-ranking economic and political delegation, arrived in Tehran Sunday upon official invitation made by President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Ahmadinejad accorded formal welcome to the Algerian president at the presidential premises downtown Tehran Monday.
