Urdu nourishes composite culture: ex-AMU VC

Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh): Ex-vice chancellor of Aligarh Muslim University (AMU), Salimuddin, said Urdu was born and nurtured in India, but some communalists try to lessen its importance by relating it to a particular community.

Delivering the presidential address at a seminar on ‘Urdu Language and Our Cultural Heritage’ organized at Maulana Azad Nagar Abul Kalam Azad Public School, he said Hindus and Sikhs besides Muslims have also been promoting and adorning the language.

He said Urdu language nourishes the composite culture of India. It played an important role in national integration. Others who expressed their views on the occasion include Dr. Mufti Zahid Ali, Prof. Ismat Beg, Aftab Ahmad, DM of Aligarh Mohan Rao and SSP Arun. On this occasion, a memorandum was presented to the district magistrate.
