New Delhi : Women in Delhi will be able to travel free in state-run Delhi Transport Corp (DTC) buses Saturday on the occasion of Raksha Bandhan, it was announced Thursday.
The facility will be valid until 5 p.m. Saturday.
The decision has been taken to ensure that women are able to easily travel to meet their brothers on Raksha Bandhan day, a Delhi government spokesperson said.
Women hailed the DTC’s announcement.
“It will help thousands of women who will travel across Delhi to celebrate the festival,” said Veena Gupta, an east Delhi woman who goes to another part of the city to tie the Rakhi on her brother.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit greeted the people of Delhi on the occasion of both Independence Day Friday and Raksha Bandhan.
