Musharraf calls for end to confrontation

Islamabad : Pakistani President Pervez Musharraf called for avoiding confrontation and adopting a conciliatory approach to overcome economic crisis and defeat terrorism, local newspaper DAWN reported Thursday.

Speaking at the Salam Pakistan cultural show organized by the state-run PTV at the President House in connection with Independence Day, Musharraf stressed the need for political stability in the country to overcome the crisis.

He said the reconciliation approach was imperative to bring political stability in the country.

Musharraf said it was his request to all to adopt reconciliation approach instead of confrontation. Differences should be buried to take the country forward, he said, adding that the was confident that the nation would come out of the present crisis.

The Pakistan People’s Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari announced on Aug. 7 that the ruling coalition would initiate the proceedings to impeach Musharraf.

Three provincial assemblies including Punjab, North West Frontier Province, and Sindh have passed resolutions asking Musharraf to take a confidence vote or resign.

Presidential spokesman Rashid Qureshi said Musharraf would not resign but face the impeachment.
