Kolkata : A bomb, fitted with a timer, was Saturday found at a fair ground in West Bengal’s Malda district, police said.
The police said an abandoned bag was found Saturday noon at the gates of the district sports association (DSA) ground where a handicraft fair was going on.
“People heard a ticking noise inside the bag and informed the police. Malda bomb squad personnel reached the spot and found a bomb fitted with a timer inside it,” district police superintendent Satyajit Bandopadhyay told reporters.
“We still don’t know how powerful the bomb is and have called for experts from Kolkata for help. For the time being the bomb has been removed from the fair ground and covered with a bomb blanket,” he added.
Sources said the police interrogated the woman, who first heard the ticking noise inside the bag, to find out who left the bag there.
