Washington : At least 20 people were killed Friday when two buses collided in the Dominican Republic, officials said.
A car also was involved in the crash on a highway near the eastern city of La Romana, said Latif Mafout Rodriguez, the director of the capital’s transportation authority.
The cause of the accident was not immediately known, and ambulances and helicopters transferred some of the injured to local hospitals. Mafout said at least 20 people died, including an unknown number of Italian tourists.
The Caribbean country is popular with Italians as a retirement and vacation destination, and many have homes there.
