Hissar (Haryana) : A man who claims to be the coach of international cricketer Yuvraj Singh was arrested on charges of raping a national-level judoka in this Haryana town, police said Saturday.
Sukhwinder Singh Bawa, who was arrested this week, has been sent to judicial custody for 14 days.
Hissar district police chief B. Satish Ballal confirmed Saturday that Bawa had been arrested on rape charges.
He has been accused by a young judo player from here of raping her in July this year.
The victim alleged that three men and a woman sedated her and took her to Meerut in Uttar Pradesh in their vehicle. She told the police in her complaint that Bawa raped her in a hotel room there.
Bawa, who is a cricket coach with the Haryana government and recently posted here, used to claim that he has been a coach to Yuvraj Singh before the southpaw broke into the international cricketing arena.
At that time Bawa used to coach budding cricketers at a cricket academy in the DAV School in Sector-8 in Chandigarh.
Yuvraj used to train at the same academy under his father and former Ranji player Yograj Singh’s guidance.
Yuvraj used to be seen in Bawa’s company at the same cricket academy on several occasions whenever he used to visit his home town Chandigarh. Bawa used to be present at his media interactions also.
