The Jammu and Kashmir Coalition of Civil Society (JKCCS) convened a meeting here to discuss the present scenario in the state and the way forward. Representative groups of Kashmiri Hindus, Sikhs and trade union leaders attended the meet.

The participants condemned the use of excessive force by the police and paramilitary troopers against peaceful protesters in the Kashmir Valley.

At least 22 people have been killed since Aug 11 in violent demonstrations against the Amarnath land row and the subsequent blockade of essential supplies to the valley.

“The meeting also stressed an immediate restoration of all the historical routes to ensure the political, psychological, economic, physical security of the besieged people of Jammu and Kashmir,” a JKCCS spokesman said.
