The official Associated Press of Pakistan (APP) quoted Iqbal, who is also information secretary of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), as saying that the 1973 constitution would be restored to its original shape.

The president, in the face of an impeachment planned by the ruling coalition, Monday announced his resignation in a televised address to the nation and said he took the decision in the best interest of the country.

Musharraf came to power in 1999 through a bloodless military coup. He had the constitution amended to arm the president with the power to dissolve parliament.
