Spices park to come up in Tamil Nadu

Chennai : Three overseas companies have shown interest in setting up units in the spices park which is to come up at Sivaganga in Tamil Nadu, said P. Chidambaram, union finance minister.

Laying the foundation Saturday for the Rs.180 million spices park promoted by the Spices Board, Chidambaram said the park would attract around 30 units that would help farmers of chilli, turmeric, tamarind and other crops.

Sivaganga is about 600 km from here.

Union Minister of State for Commerce Jairam Ramesh said the park would give the necessary fillip for growth in the under developed area.

He said the Spices Board has opened a park in Guntur in Andhra Pradesh and more such parks would be set up in Rajasthan, Gujarat and Madhya Pradesh.
