China hopes Nepal will achieve stability: Premier Wen

Beijing : China Sunday told Nepal it would work to deepen bilateral ties and expressed hope the Himalayan country under the new leadership would achieve political stability and accelerate economic growth.

Chinese premier Wen Jiabao, while conveying this to his visiting Nepali counterpart Pushpa Kamal Dahai, also known as Prachanda, said Beijing would work with Kathmandu to expand the field of cooperation.

Prachanda arrived in Beijing Saturday, his first foreign visit after assuming office, to attend the closing ceremony of the Beijing Olympic Games Sunday evening as also to discuss bilateral matters with the Chinese leadership.

Wen said China respected the social system of Nepal and the path of development it has chosen according to its situation.

Prachanda said historic changes have been taking place in Nepal. The Nepali government and people were striving for national stability and economic development, and hoped to get support and cooperation from China.

Nepal supports China’s efforts to maintain national sovereignty and territorial integrity, Prachanda said.

Prachanda also met President Hu Jintao who told him China greatly appreciates Nepal’s friendship.
