Srinagar : Army has been called out in South Kashmir while paramilitary forces battled with groups of youth who defied curfew in several towns across Kashmir. Scores of people have been injured in clashes.
Mobs defied curfew and fought street battles with security forces in Srinagar, Anantnag and Beeru towns in south and central Kashmir soon after the announcements were made that curfew has been clamped across the Kashmir Valley Sunday, a day ahead of a major independence rally in capital Srinagar.
In the meanwhile Hurriyat Conference today vowed to go ahead with Monday rally despite restrictions.
One report said the army, which has been kept on standby to deal with the situation, was called out in Khnabal area of Anantnag following mass defiance there this morning.
Small groups of young men came on to the streets in the Srinagar, chanting Allah-o-Akbar (God is Great) and “Indians Quit Kashmir” defying the curfew restrictions.
