Equity markets stay in the green early afternoon

Mumbai : Indian equity markets stayed in the green early Monday afternoon, thanks to buying interest in realty, banking, telecom and technology stocks.

At 2:00 p.m., the 30-share benchmark index of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the Sensex, was at 14,591.57 points, up 190.08 points or 1.32 percent from its clsoing figure Friday. It had reached a high of 14,672.69 points earlier Monday.

At the same time the broader based S&P CNX Nifty index of the National Stock Exchange was at 4368.70 points, up 41.25 points or 0.95 percent from its previous close.

The market breadth was positive. On BSE, 1,568 shares advanced, 950 declined and 83 remained unchanged.
