Cairo : A delegation of the Islamic Jihad movement from the Gaza Strip arrived in Egypt on Monday morning via the Rafah crossing for talks with Egyptian officials on the resumption of an inter-Palestinian dialogue.
The Jihad delegation, led by Mohamed al-Hendy, is expected to join another delegation of the movement from Syria to hold talks with Egyptian intelligence chief Omar Suleiman on the current internal Palestinian rift and means of achieving calm in Gaza, the Egyptian MENA news agency reported.
On Sunday morning, Jihad leader Ramadan Abdullah Shalah arrived here from Damascus for the talks hosted by Egypt.
Egyptian mediators led by Suleiman will hold separate talks this week with Palestinian groups at bilateral level to hammer out a unified view among Palestinians in a bid to overcome the current crisis in the Palestinian territories.
Following the bilateral meetings, Egypt will then oversee a comprehensive Palestinian dialogue to help the Palestinians get out of the current crisis and rifts among rival movements.
In the past months, Egypt has been trying to broker a Palestinian reconciliation after it succeeded to broker a ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian Hamas movement which rules the Gaza Strip.
