Hijacked Sudanese passenger plane lands in Libya

Khartoum : A Sudanese passenger plane which was hijacked Tuesday from the country’s restive Darfur region has landed in Libya, al-Jazeera TV reported.

According to the report, around 83 people were onboard when it was hijacked by a Sudanese man from the country’s western Darfur state.

Hours before the hijack, Sudanese President Omar al-Bashir accused the armed rebel groups in the region of plunging the country into lawlessness.

He said “foreign powers” are supporting the armed movements in Darfur.

Over 10,000 people have been killed and millions have been displaced in the five-year-long conflict.
