Swedish Academy member Sten Rudholm dies aged 90

Stockholm : Long-serving Swedish Academy member Sten Rudholm, 90, has died, aged 90, the body that awards the Nobel Literature Prize said Monday.

Rudholm, former chief justice of appeal and marshal of the realm, was elected to the academy in 1977.

An academy statement said Rudholm died Saturday.

Rudholm held Chair Number One in the Academy, that during the 20th century has customarily been occupied by lawyers.

The 18-member assembly selects the literature prize winner, one of the prizes endowed by Swedish industrialist and dynamite inventor Alfred Nobel.

The Nobel award ceremony is traditionally held Dec 10, the anniversary of Nobel’s 1896 death in San Remo, Italy.
