New Delhi : Jeev Milkha Singh touched a new career-high as he rose from previous week’s 44th to 36th in world ranking following his win in the Golf Nippon Series JT Cup in Tokyo Sunday.
The ranking was a new high for Jeev, whose previous best was No. 37 at the end of 2006.
Jeev, who now has two wins in his last three starts – he was the winner at Barclay’s Singapore Open and then tied 11th at UBS Hong Kong Open – grabbed 24 points for his win in Japan. That took his tally to 210.13 from 74 events in the last 104 weeks or two years. His Official World Golf Rankings points average is now 2.84.
“It is always a great feeling to touch a new high, but the way things have been personally, they have been draining. My mind has hardly been on golf, but my wife Kudrat’s mental strength and family support have carried me on,” said Jeev, who is due to play the Volvo Masters of Asia next week in Bangkok.
Jeev has already sewn up the Asian Tour Order of Merit with record earnings of $ 1.44 million and is the first Asian Tour player to earn more than a million dollars in a single year.
The next best Indian in world rankings after Jeev is Jyoti Randhawa (147), followed by Arjun Atwal (201) and S.S.P. Chowrasia (324). Then come Shiv Kapur (433) and Gaurav Ghei (472).
