After a two and half delayed start , Gautam Gambhir (80, 4×6) and Yuvraj Singh (79, 4×6 ,6×4) carried India to 216 runs for four wickets with a 367-run lead at the luncheon break.

At resumption of their overnight score of 134 for four, Gambhir and Yuvraj made their intentions clear by going on the offensive. Graeme Swann particularly came in for a harsh treatment in the fifth over of the day when he was smacked for 12 runs.

Both Gambhir and Yuvraj completed their half centuries in the first session, batting with an average of 6.30 runs per over.

Yuvraj pounced over Stuart Broad in the eleventh over of the day and brought alive the images of his Durban feat of six sixes. He hit the 22 year- old- bowler for two sixes in consecutive deliveries, his first one hit at the mid-on and the next at the backward point.

Gambhir so far has made 259 runs in the ongoing Test and has thus become the highest run getter from India against England in a Test match. Earlier, Vinoo Mankad held the record of 256 runs against England at Lords in 1952.
