New Delhi: As some Muslim organizations including Jamaat-e-Islami have long been contemplating to form a political party of Muslims, Delhi’s renowned businessman and president of India Islamic Cultural Centre Sirajuddin Qureshi took a lead yesterday and formed Hamari Party at a gathering in New Delhi.
The third representative meet of backward classes within the Muslim community held on December 22 at India Islamic Cultural Centre unanimously elected Qureshi, who is a prominent social activist and top leader of the Qureshi community, as the president of the new political party.
The party has decided to field its candidates in the coming Lok Sabha elections. Process has been started to register it with the Election Commission of India. To formally announce the formation of the party, a big rally will be organized on February 9 in New Delhi.
The main motive behind the formation of the party is that the backward Muslims, who constitute 89% of the all India population of Muslims, should be given due share in the legislature.
