Bhubaneswar : A teenage girl in Orissa’s Khurda district attempted to immolate herself after she was scolded by her drunk father.
“My father’s behaviour was intolerable. I tried to commit suicide to escape the mental torture,” Asima Sahu told IANS.
The 13-year-old resident of Antia village, some 40 km from here, poured kerosene and set herself on fire Wednesday night after her father Dhaneswar Sahu came home drunk and scolded her.
Asima said her shrieks alerted the neighbours who rushed her to a local hospital. On Thursday, she was shifted to a government hospital here as her condition deteriorated.
Doctors said she had suffered 50 percent burn injuries.
