Islamabad : Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani has said that Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto gave her life to brighten the light of democracy and freedom and illuminate new ways for progress and prosperity of people and stability of the country.
In a message on the first death anniversary of Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, the Prime Minister said Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) is representative of the aspirations of the Pakistani people.
He said the party is determined to wipe out poverty, ignorance, backwardness, terrorism and shun regional and linguistic prejudices.
As a representative of the aspirations of the people, founder Chairman of PPP Zulfikar Ali Bhutto fostered the plant of democracy and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto gave it her blood to make it a strong tree, he added.
The Prime Minister said Benazir Bhutto sacrificed her life for democratic culture, freedom of thought and expression, achievement of human rights and an equal society setting a brilliant example not only for Pakistan but also for the whole world.
Gilani said Benazir Bhutto gave a charter to rid the vulnerable sections of Pakistani society of economic and social oppression and difficult conditions and of replacement of the exploitative system with the a system of speedy justice and equality.
The present popular and democratic government under the courageous leadership of Asif Ali Zardari is following this charter taking the country on the path of progress and prosperity, he added.
The Prime Minister pointed out that today majority of the countries in the world were a victims of economic recession, terrorism and suicide attacks and unfortunately Pakistan was also facing these issues.
He said it was extremism and terrorism, which separated them from their beloved leader.
The Prime Minister said Benazir Bhutto set out on a mission to serve the national interest by putting aside political differences and personal vanity and they will take this process forward as they needed this spirit more than ever.
“We have to show national honour and solidarity on internal and external fronts to prove that Pakistani people are conscious and peaceful.”
Gilani underlined the need for rising above personal, political and parochial differences to work together for the country’s progress and development, prosperity of people and human equality.
The Prime Minister said time has proved that after Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, Shaheed Benazir Bhutto was the only representative and beloved political leader who brought together people through love, brotherhood and friendship.
“Without any doubt, the martyred leader was the bond which binded the four provinces and was the reflection of the dreams of the people.”
The Prime Minister expressed the determination that they would uphold at every cost the flag of courage, bravery and sacrifice which was raised by the martyred leader in the skies of Pakistan.
He said a year has passed since their beloved leader got separated from them and people remember her with heavy heart and tear in their eyes.
The Prime Minister vowed that they would turn these tears into light to end darkness of poverty, ignorance, prejudice and backwardness from the country and move forward with a new conviction and fortitude to put the country on path of progress and stability.
