Chandigarh : A group of ex-servicemen and a farmers association here Saturday demanded a central agency probe into the mega projects initiated by S.F. Rodrigues, the administrator of Chandigarh.
“The administrator here has become a one man army. The administrator is pursuing mega projects without going into the logistics and their feasibility,” said Baldev Singh Randhawa, a senior retired army officer while addressing a press conference here Saturday.
Randhawa added: “We collectively demand a fair probe by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) into all the projects initiated by the administrator during his tenure in Chandigarh. Most of the times he is inaccessible to us and we do not even receive any response to letters sent to him.”
S.S. Brar, former director general of police, Punjab said that the administration is blindly acquiring the land of farmers at throwaway prices, clearly violating the Rehabilitation Act of the Government of India.
“All the projects like edu-city, medi-city, film-city and the theme park are based on corrupt activities of our administration and we have enough proof supporting this. We are open to any discussion with anyone on this issue,” said H.S. Johal, president of Manimajra Farmers’ Association.
“We want a CBI probe into all these projects. It is sad that Chandigarh is gradually losing its image. Land mafia has become very strong here and everyone wants to grab the land of poor farmers here in the name of development,” Johal said.
