Mumbai: Taking ahead the Malegaon blast probe the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorism Squad on Friday questioned the president of the Hindu radical organization Abhinav Bharat in Pune. Many of those arrested so far in the case are linked with the group.
The interrogation of Abhinav Bharat president Himani Savarkar came as a part of the effort of the ATS to know the detailed activities of Abhinav Bharat.
Media reports say she was called in to ATS’ Pune office and interrogated for nearly three hours about activities of Abhinav Bharat and her background too.
When ATS arrested Lt. Col. Prasad Purohit, Retd. Major Ramesh Upadhyay, working president of Abhinav Bharat, outfit’s media manager Sameer Kulkarni and its treasurer Ajay Rahirkar during Malegaon blast investigation Savarkar had stated that as the national president of the outfit it was her duty to help them.
Abhinav Bharat, now a terror Hindutva outfit, was formed by Veer Savarkar in 1904. He was a freedom-fighter who waged armed struggle against the British imperialism under the banner of the organization. It was dissolved in 1952 after Independence but revived later.
Himani Savarkar, who is daughter-in-law of Babarao Savarkar, brother of Veer Savarkar, renovated Abhinav Bharat in 2006 and has since been its president.
