Dhaka : More women voters are casting their votes in Bangladesh’s 9th parliamentary election which is being held on Monday.
Witnesses said there are many women voters queuing up in different polling centers in Dhaka, adding the phenomenon was rare in the past.
After casting her vote in a polling center in Dhaka, Farhana Mahmud told Xinhua the government has created very good environment for voting, like the deployment of a highest number of security forces, banning the movement of vehicles.
“I think the government is willing to hold a free and fair election which will be accepted by all the parties,” she said.
According to the Bangladesh Election Commission, there are 81,058,698 registered voters out of whom 50.9 percent are women for this election.
All the major parties were trying to seek the support from the women voters as they become the majority for the first time in the voter list.
“I appreciate all the measures taken by the government, so I would like to vote this time,” Mahmud said.
Bangladeshi caretaker government Home Secretary Abdul Karim told Xinhua on Monday the government built up an unprecedented security bulwark across the country to ensure peaceful voting, and is also taking measures to prevent post-election violence.
