Two Punjab schoolboys arrested for printing fake currency

Jalandhar : Two teenaged schoolboys who wanted to become rich hit upon the idea of printing fake currency notes. However, they were caught when trying to palm off fake Rs.500 notes and handed over to police.

The two were arrested by the Punjab Police here Monday for possessing fake currency notes of face value Rs.100,000.

Bikramjit Singh, a Class 10 student in a government school here, and his school drop-out friend Rajiv were arrested by the police for illegally printing and circulating fake currency.

The police recovered a computer, printer and scanner from them.

Police officials said the two boys first began printing currency notes of smaller denominations of up to Rs.50 but graduated to Rs.500 notes to make a fast buck.

However, their first lot of fake Rs.500 currency notes was detected by some shopkeepers and the police were informed.
