Intensive police patrolling on New Year’s eve in Chandigarh

Chandigarh : Intensive patrolling will be carried out by police here to ensure no untoward incidents take place during New Year’s eve, an official said Tuesday.

“We have given security instructions to all our officials well in advance to avoid any last minute confusion,” H.S. Doon, superintendent of police (security), told IANS.

“Besides continuous police patrolling in the interior sectors, we will also installed special police checkpoints manned by senior officials at all the sensitive locations of the city,” he said.

He added: “All the vehicles coming from neighbouring states of Punjab and Haryana will be thoroughly checked before allowing entry in the city. Our officials will be on duty outside all hotels and party joints in civil dress to keep an eye on any anti-social elements.”

A police official admitted that in the past there were many cases of traffic rules violations and bloody brawls in which children of leading industrialists and bureaucrats were involved.
