Markets quiet in morning trading

Mumbai : Indian equities markets moved in a tight range Wednesday morning with a key index trading a marginal 0.44 percent above Tuesday’s close.

The sensitive index (Sensex) of the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE) was trading at 9,759.3 points just before noon, a rise of 43.14 points or 0.44 percent from its previous close of 9,716.16 points.

Among the top gainers were Satyam Computer, which has been on the rise with the scrip looking attractive at current valuations, and speculation that the company is in for a change of management.

The broader S&P CNX Nifty of the National Stock Exchange (NSE) was also trading marginally higher at 2,984.5 points, about 0.17 percent higher than Tuesday’s close.

Market indices like the midcap index gained 1.39 percent over its previous close, while the smallcap index was up 1.53 percent.

Asian markets were again in the green in the morning trade with the Nikkei, a key index of the Tokyo Stock Exchange, ruling 1.28 percent higher than Tuesday’s close.

The Hang Seng, a key index of the Hong Kong Stock Exchange, also did well rising 1.07 percent over its previous close.
