Srinagar : Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad Friday accused some government officials of trying to blunt his campaign against corruption by dragging his name in the infamous forest scam here.
“If they believe I will start wearing bangles and give up my campaign against corruption by dragging the names of my brothers into the forest scam, they are badly mistaken,” Azad told a press conference here.
“I shall carry my anti-corruption drive to its logical conclusion.”
On Thursday, a private television channel had aired a report accusing Azad’s brothers of felling green trees in Kishtwar district in the state’s Jammu region although they had the tender of extracting only dead and fallen trees.
The report was based on a letter purportedly written by a senior forest officer.
“I have left my home 41 years back. I do not live with my brothers nor do they live with me. If they are involved anywhere, let me assure you they would be dealt with in accordance with the law of the land,” the chief minister said.
Azad also said that he is ready to hand over the investigations into this specific allegation to the Central Bureau of Investigations (CBI).
