The woman, who was hospitalized with bird flu symptoms two weeks ago, died late on Thursday of multiple organ failure. Enquiries revealed that she had visited a poultry market prior to falling ill.

The death is the fourth in the past week in the southeast Asian country after a 32 year-old man, a 23 year-old woman and a nine-year-old boy died of H5N1 infection.

Indonesia has the world’s highest human death toll from bird flu. The disease broke out in the archipelago in 2003.
