Denmark to Query US on Secret Flights

Copenhagen : Denmark’s Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen promised on Thursday to demand an explanation from the United States for alleged secret CIA flights using Danish airspace and airports in transit.

However, the head of the government rejected an independent inquiry, as demanded by the opposition in response to a DR1 TV documentary denouncing the use of a Danish airport in southern Greenland for CIA illegal rendition flights.

According to Rasmussen, his Cabinet never permitted or took part in operations violating international regulations.

Channel DR1 reported that Narsarsuaq Airport in Greenland was used for stopovers of planes disguised as corporate, which are suspected of transporting illegally-kidnapped terrorist suspects to Egypt, Jordan, Romania and Afghanistan, among other countries.

Between the end of 2001 and 2005 the CIA-operated planes carried out more than a thousand flights involving European airports.
