A woman wearing an explosive vest blew herself up at the crowded popular market of Soug al-Ghazil, the ministry said.

The Soug al-Ghazil market has been attacked several times in the past.

On Nov 24, the US military blamed Iranian-backed Shia militant groups for a bomb attack in the market that killed 13 people and wounded 57.

Sporadic attacks continue in Baghdad, dealing a blow to the security situation in the capital after a relative lull in violence as a result of the US military surge.
