The day began with slight drizzle across the national capital region and it continued intermittently till noon. “More drizzle is expected Sunday night and Monday could be partly overcast,” an Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) official told IANS.

Though the maximum and minimum temperatures hovered a few notches below what is normal for this time of the year, the mercury has begun rising, said the Met Office. The maximum temperature Sunday was 20.3 degrees Celsius.

The IMD official said Monday’s minimum temperature would be around eight degrees Celsius.

The national capital recorded a low of 2.9 degrees Celsius Saturday, but the mercury went upward due to the cloud cover over the city, Met officials said.

For the past two days, the people in the capital and neighbouring areas have been left shivering with plummeting mercury.

People also enjoyed the somewhat warm Sunday afternoon by thronging to India Gate and various shopping malls across the capital.

“We were a bit reluctant earlier to go out due to drizzle, but when it stopped in the evening we came to India Gate with friends to enjoy the fine weather,” said Pawan Kumar, a Punjab resident.

Sanjay Suri, who had come with his wife Nishi, said: “Though it’s cold, we didn’t want to miss enjoying this romantic season.”
