Cairo : Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak held a meeting here with chief of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) Mohammed ElBaradei, who is on a visit to discuss cooperation for peaceful use of nuclear energy.
ElBaradei did not make a statement following the meeting Monday.
On Sunday night, after meeting Egyptian Foreign Minister Ahmed Abulgheit, the IAEA chief said, “There is no conflict of interest between the IAEA and the Egyptian programme for peaceful use of nuclear energy.”
He stressed the importance of making all information available to any state that decided to set up a peaceful nuclear energy programme so that they may conduct a feasibility study that included the economic, environmental and security aspects.
The IAEA chief said Egypt would need such an energy resource because its gas and petroleum reserves were “limited,” adding that any programme set up by the country would be under the supervision of the IAEA.
