Thrissur (Kerala) : Acute milk shortage looms ahead of Kerala as Karnataka may soon reduce the quantum of milk supplies to the state.
“The Karnataka Milk Cooperative Federation informed us that they may have to reduce the supply of milk to Kerala, as they are also facing shortage in their state,” said T.P. Marcos, chairman of the Ernakulam Regional Cooperative Milk Producers’ Union, here Tuesday.
Kerala Milk Marketing Federation Ltd, popularly known as Milma which is the largest supplier of milk in the state, is facing a deficit of 300,000 litres a day and the shortage is met with supplies from Karnataka.
Kerala minister for food and civil supplies C. Divakaran said in Thiruvananthapuram that the government has initiated steps to ensure adequate supply of milk in the state.
“We will bring milk from Maharashtra to overcome the scarcity here,” he said.
